The Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success are some attributes that IU wants us to develop are deeper than just academic success. This goes to show that college is more than just learning academic material, it is about growing as individuals and about becoming strong members in society. The two profiles I viewed closely were communicator and community contributor. I feel that I identify with communicator the most. Communicator is most aligned with where I am out because I am constantly listening to others, striving for the in-person communication, and wanting to build new relationships. Being an American Sign Language and English interpreting major, I am constantly going out into the Deaf community to build connections. And I think that is helping me begin developing this profile. As I get closer to my professional career, I am preparing myself to bridge communication gaps. I also like the Community contributor profile because as I engage in the Deaf community, I am learning how to gain respect for all cultures and how to interact with others in an ethical manner. To bridge communication gaps, I have to work really hard at listening thoroughly to others and convey their ideas effectively. Being a strong communicator is who I am, and I am hoping that upon graduation that I will be able to convey meaning between two languages with equivalence.
